Meet Capt. Tony Young
August 27, 2025
Islamorada, FL
For some, a life on the water is a hobby. For Captain Tony Young, it’s a livelihood. Day after day, Young relies on his Invincible 36′ Open Fisherman to get him and his clients to the fish and back safely and comfortably, all while providing a world-class experience. Making a living on the water is not an easy way of life—it takes patience, persistence, and a vessel that’s never going to back down from an adventure. We sat down with Capt. Tony to learn more about why he chooses Invincible and what it means to him.
Tell us about yourself. What led you to becoming a spearfisherman and charter captain?
“To me, this is more than a passion. It’s a calling. I’ve always been enamored with this way of life, and it didn’t take me long to realize that I wanted to make a living on the water. My dedication to conservation led me here, and I’m proud that I’ve been able to grow in this industry while practicing the most sustainable method of fish harvest on Earth. My hard work and dedication has paid off, and I’m thankful to have grown such a vast network of clients and lifelong friends while doing what I love.”
What initially drew you to choose an Invincible?
“I knew from the first time I rode on a 36′ Open Fisherman that it was the perfect boat for what I do. The sheer line and fit & finish make the boat look the part, but the performance is what I rely on every day. The hull design, born from advanced naval architecture, which speaks to the boat’s ability to handle all the tough conditions I face here in the Florida Keys. I’ve owned and run several different center console fishing platforms, and none have provided the speed, efficiency, and versatility that I get from my Invincible. In all my years on the water, I’ve yet to find a better performing open fisherman.”
“I'VE OWNED AND OPERATED A LOT OF DIFFERENT BOATS, BUT MY INVINCIBLE 36' OPEN FISHERMAN IS IN A CLASS OF ITS OWN.”

How has your Invincible's performance in rough conditions changed your approach to running charters?
“My 36′ Open Fisherman, with a full load, has a range of 500+ miles cruising at more than 40 miles per hour. This allows me to run trips that others cannot. When my clients want to fish and dive the Dry Tortugas, a 150-mile trip from Islamorada, I have full confidence in my boat to get us there and back in the same day, even when the weather is unfavorable, without the need to refuel. When I’m 100 miles from home with clients on board, I constantly find myself thinking that this is the only boat I want to be on.”
Tell us about some of the challenging conditions you've navigated in your Invincible and what impressed you the most about how your boat handled them.
“While running a charter in the Dry Tortugas, some 70 nautical miles west of Key West, a nasty string of severe summer thunderstorms formed, seemingly out of nowhere. After a look at the radar, I plotted a route to Key West and we got going. 6′ to 8′ seas and wind speeds of 30+ miles per hour made for some challenging conditions, to say the least, but neither I, nor my clients, ever felt a sense of danger or discomfort. At that point, I knew that this boat was operating on a different level.”
When clients experience your Invincible for the first time, what are their reactions?
“Most clients immediately say, ‘Wow, this is the nicest boat I’ve ever been on.’ To me, based on my experience and the feedback of my clients, the Invincible difference goes beyond the exceptional ride quality, speed, efficiency, and other impressive performance metrics. As a charter captain, I aim to deliver world-class experiences to my clients, and this boat allows me to do that. Memorable catches are one thing, but I rely on this boat’s immaculate fit & finish and intelligent comfort features to keep my customers happy throughout their trips, regardless of the conditions.”
“MANY OF MY TRIPS REQUIRE RUNNING 400+ MILES IN A SINGLE DAY ACROSS UNFORGIVING OPEN WATER, AND MY INVINCIBLE ALLOWS ME TO DO SO WITH EASE, KEEPING MY CLIENTS SAFE AND COMFORTABLE.”

How has the hull design helped you pursue specific species or fishing techniques?
“In more ways than I can count. One pursuit that comes to mind here is wahoo fishing in The Bahamas during the winter months. Not only does my boat allow me to cross to the islands quickly and efficiently, but it also enhances my experience at the fishing grounds. When trolling for wahoo, the Invincible hull design allows me to keep the boat on plane at lower speeds with the trim tabs angled down. This allows me to burn less fuel and prevent turbulent water from entering my spread of baits, increasing my odds of success. Back home in the Keys, I run a lot of scuba diving trips, and the interior layout allows me to store all my tanks beneath the deck, leaving an open platform for me and my clients to operate unencumbered.”
What's the longest trip you've made on your Invincible, and what gave you the confidence to push that boundary?
“We have done a number of long range trips—that’s just how we operate. I enjoy pushing the boundaries, running farther than others, and doing it faster than anyone else. The longest trip I can remember was leaving Islamorada and heading towards Key West to then shoot 150 miles into the Gulf for some spearfishing. We dove deep, remote spots, which led me to my personal best 87-pound black grouper. After diving, we ran 150 miles back to Key West and stayed the night. In total we ran the boat just over 400 miles that day. For some, this is an impossible trip. For us, it’s normal, and we are never concerned about the distance. Running an Invincible gives me the confidence to make these long range trips; it’s just another day for me—and the boat.”
“I CHOOSE INVINCIBLE BECAUSE I NEED A SERIOUS BOAT. I NEED SPEED, EFFICIENCY, AND PERFORMANCE IN ANY CONDITIONS, AND MY 36' OPEN FISHERMAN DELIVERS EVERY TIME.”
